Achieving a Sanctuary Style Bathroom in Your Home – MessHall

Sometimes all you need after a long day at work, is to retreat to your bathroom and have an hour’s relaxation before heading back down to get on with the rest of your day.  The bathroom is a place that requires plenty of calming features, not to mention a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Whilst generic bathroom designs can often be slightly bright and clinical, there are ways in which you can create your own spa-like bathroom that enables you to switch off from the rest of the world and have some much needed ‘you’ time.

Neutral Colours and Soft Materials

First things first you need to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere within your bathroom. One of the best ways to achieve this kind of atmosphere is through the colour scheme chosen for the bathroom’s décor. Whilst bright white combined with blue and green is often a popular bathroom choice, to ensure your space is cosy and relaxing you want to work with colours such as ivory, cream, grey and brown. These neutral colours will instantly create a soft atmosphere and provide you with the perfect opportunity to accessories and decorate the rest of the room around this neutral scheme.

You then have the materials within your bathroom to consider. Introducing some soft tiles to your bathroom walls to add character and brighten the décor. You can then look at adding key features such as a cosy chair with plenty of cushioning, beautifully soft towels and delicate bath mats to keep your feet comfortable and warm whenever you’re in the room. These simple features will make your bathroom feel really cosy and provide the perfect space for you to retire and hide for a few hours.

Mood Lighting

The moment you enter a spa you are instantly greeted by soft mood lighting that has been lowered to a dimmed brightness. By dimming the lights, you instantly create a relaxing atmosphere that enables your eyes and mind to relax instantaneously. Whilst this kind of lighting may not be practical at all times in your bathroom, mood lighting is the perfect solution to having the option for dimmed lighting whenever you want. Mood lighting gives you the control over the lighting settings, meaning you can have bright white lighting first thing in the morning, when you want to be awake and bright. You can then switch things up and have dimmed lighting, complimented by some candles for added relaxation, for an evening time when you have the time to wind down and de-stress.

Essential Items

In order to fully relax there are often specific, essential items that are needed to help with this process. Set the tone with some peaceful music by adding some speakers for your phone, light some scented candles to create a gorgeous, relaxing aroma throughout the bathroom and then add some of your favourite bubble bath to ensure you can have a relaxing bath to top off your sanctuary style experience. Adding a bold feature to your bathroom such as a painted oak bookcase or some neat shelving will give you the perfect place to neatly store all of your favourite items such as books, magazines and even photographs.
