Ultimate Checklist for a Stress-free Moving Day – MessHall

Those people who haven’t yet ‘done a move’ – don’t understand just how stressful moving day can be. The whole packing and moving process can be quite a challenge, but moving day itself, for those in the know, can strike fear into the hearts of even the staunchest home mover.

Here is the ultimate moving day checklist to help alleviate some of the stress associated with moving day.

Wake up early – get a good sleep the night before and make sure to set your alarm. You want to be up and raring to go. This is the day when you need to stay on top of everything. Yes, it’s going to be a long one, but you need to stay alert and getting a good night’s sleep the night before will help.

Dress for the day – more than anything else, you’ll want to be comfortable throughout moving day, and also practical. Loose flapping sleeves or super tight jeans might not be the best option. Go for something simple, loose and comfortable. If you’re travelling to another part of the country you might also want to pack a change of clothes in case the weather is quite different.

It’s also a good idea to have a change of clothes handy just in case of accidents – or even just to freshen yourself up. And it beats trying or rummage through boxes looking for the clothes you want.

Make a list (there’s an app for it!) – you’ll probably have gotten through your fair share of to-do lists before moving day arrives, but lists work in your favour. If you can’t be bothered with pieces of paper – use your phone and one of the checklist apps to list down everything you need to do on moving day before vacating your old home. When you have everything listed down, it’s so much easier to stay on top of things and track everything.

Food – yes, it might be the last thing on your mind at the moment (if you’re still frantically packing!) but for sure you’re going to be hungry on moving day, and your refrigerator will be empty. To avoid running to the supermarket or trying to find the nearest convenience store in your new neighbourhood, which just adds to the stress and also wastes valuable time, plan ahead and pack a box with essential drinks and snacks that will see you through the entire day.

Kids – we all love them, but on moving day they tend to get bored almost instantly, and can easily get under the feet of the movers. Overall, it’s best to pack them off someplace for the day or at least have a relative or friend look after them while the loading and unloading gets done. They’ll probably have more fun, and it’s one less thing for you to worry about while the move is underway.

As the experts from Gloucester removals recommend, a little planning beforehand and some attention to detail can make moving day a lot easier than you can imagine.
