You have to make a decision – wood floors or waterproof floors. Do you go for the traditional look of wood or the practicality of a waterproof floor? The news is you don’t have to choose. Modern waterproof flooring combines a wood style with a practical waterproofed surface. Here’s an insight into the variety of waterproof floors available on the market today.

  1. Waterproof Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is nothing new. But there have been advances in this type of flooring in recent years that have transformed this into a more practical and stylish option for floors. Vinyl flooring is very durable. It also comes in a number of different options in terms of layers and optimum wear, so you can get stronger floors for high-traffic areas in the home. Vinyl floors are waterproof and they are also available with a wood look.

  1. WPC Vinyl Flooring

Another option in waterproof flooring is WPC vinyl. This can mean either Wood Plastic Composite or Waterproof Core. This option comes in a wide range of different styles and is also extremely durable and completely waterproof. It can be installed anywhere in the house and comes in options with or without an underlay layer – the layer can be attached, which makes it quicker to install.

  1. Waterproof Ceramic or Porcelain Tile

This is a traditional option that is often used in bathrooms and kitchens where there is a need for waterproofing. This option is certainly waterproof, as has been tested over generations. You can get all types of tiles in a variety of stones and materials, to suit all different budgets from cheap to very expensive. These tiles are great for cleaning and will withstand heavy traffic. But it has to be said that this option is very cold on the feet, particularly when you are in the bathroom. Plus, there is the potential for breakage if you happen to drop something very heavy on the tile.

  1. Waterproof Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring, which is made up of particles of wood, is not naturally waterproof and you can encounter problems when you install this flooring in a bathroom or kitchen. There are some options that are more waterproof than others, although this option is generally not a great idea for flooring in a bathroom.

5 Waterproof Rubber Flooring

Rubber flooring is not as strange as it sounds, since there are number of options in rubber tiles in different styles and colours. Rubber is a good option since it is waterproof, and it offers good cushioning properties. But it can be difficult to install and it does tend to give off a certain smell when first fitted. The look is also a little reminiscent of a gym or play centre, so the aesthetics are not ideal for everyone.
