Free Trade is an afternoon of barter, negotiation, and non-competitive trading. All are invited to bring their excess goods to share and/or swap with fellow enthusiasts. Tables and chairs will be provided, along with hearty food, refreshing drink, and friendly swap-meet banter. Although Free Trade will kick off with the ring of a trading bell, no money will be exchanged. Some trading systems will be introduced, but participants are free to do their own negotiations. Confirmed participants on Sunday will be trading: Books, Zines, Comics, Records, CDs, Tapes, Videos, Foodstuffs, and some surprises! Observers are also welcome. All shall enjoy: But you will NOT see: For information, Contact Salem Collo-Julin: "Let us not overlook, finally, the noneconomic costs of economic competition, which have been said to include a loss of community and sociability, a heightening of selfishness, and such other consequences as anxiety, hostility, obsessional thinking, and the suppression of individuality." (Alfie Kohn, in "No Contest", Houghton Mifflin, 1986). |
